My Sound Doesn't Need a ZIP Code
By Khing Jus Wurk | WURKXCREW
People are quick to ask where a sound comes from. That's a fair question. But I don't think the answer should become a box an artist has to live inside.
Red Hook, Brooklyn shaped how I listen, how I pay attention to words, and how I recognize grit when I hear it. The Atlanta area is part of the life I'm building now. Both places matter to me. Neither one needs me to imitate somebody else's idea of what that city should sound like.
I make music from experience. Some of it is direct. Some of it asks questions. Some of it is simply a chance to put energy into the room and let the listener decide what stays with them.
That's what creative independence means to me. Not pretending I came from nowhere, and not borrowing a personality to prove I belong somewhere. I can respect my influences without becoming their copy.
WURKXCREW connects the different ways I create: music, performance, writing, and the work behind all of them. This music is one part of that larger picture.
If you hear something in the work that connects with your own journey, tell me what it is. I'd rather start a real conversation than chase a label.
I AM WURK. WE ARE WURKXCREW.
